PSA: Name That Blogger!

Photobucket

Starts today! BE THERE!

***

I have an amazing blog roll, which I don't post on my blog but you can see if you view my profile. Instead of a blog roll, I list writers along with links to their blogs (or in a few instances, websites). Why? Because our names are more important than cutesy blog titles that play on the word "write." What are the chances a reader is going to search Amazon or IndieBound for a book by the guy who writes the Walk, Write, Buy blog? See my point?

Anyway, I've been fighting with Blogger on this for two years. Blogger defaults to the blog title but allows me to change to the writer's name manually. All well and good EXCEPT whenever the computer reboots, these changes are lost and have to be re-entered. In Georgia, this has proven to be a time consuming and repetitive task due to all the electrical storms.

To make a long story short: I give up. Any blogs defaulting to a title and no name, are going to be nixed from the name list. If you were formerly on the list and your name has disappeared, it's because your name wasn't connected to your blog title.

I still love you. I still love your blog. I will still visit. You're still on my blog roll!

For those of you writing for publication who don't have your name tied to your blog, consider making the change. You don't need to change your title, simply create a JPEG of your blog header and use it at the top of your page. In your profile, list your actual name as your "display name." Don't miss an opportunity to get your name out there.

Okay?

Okay!

I have found that, like fighting the incoming tide, Blogger always wins -- even when they are wrong. Or should I say ESPECIALLY when they are wrong.

As always, a fun blog, Roland

I guess now I know my name is listed--I changed my URL a while back and was a little surprised by what Blogger does and doesn't do when you do that.

Happy Tuesday!

Roland - In California it was fine because the computer only "slept" and Blogger didn't have an opportunity to work it's insidious evil. Now that I have to turn the thing off all the time... well, you're right, Blogger won. :)

Stephanie- Such a smart thing to do! It's so much easier to remember bloggers' names (not mine, but normal names) than blog titles. And I often enter URLs directly to avoid Google Reader, which I know will cost me an entire afternoon if I'm lured in.

Hi, VR,

Yes, I definitely see your point. I guess I can use my name in my blog title. OR use your suggestion of creating a JPEG...

When I have a moment I'll try it....

See you at WOC....

Michael - Blogger is sneakier than I thought. Your name *didn't* revert back. But when I try to re-enter it, your blog comes up by the title. Thought I had this figured out.

On my way to WOC.

I made that leap this week. I feel so egocentric now that the title of my blog starts with my name.

Blogger is a pain. Very annoying lately.

Umm, I THINK my name is tied to by blog name but I'm so technically challenged that I can't be sure--or don't know how to be sure. :(

Angela - Awesome! That means I can add you!

M Pax - NK! Couple Blogger with a new Mac OS, and I'm ready to revert to Microsoft.

Karen - Houston, we have a problem: You're coming up Hopper instead of Hooper, but your URL is perfect. :(
